Hello Wild ones,
As the cold and dark cloak of winter begins to lift, March brings a time of gentle awakening and renewal. It's a month where the Earth stretches lazily, preparing for the vibrant burst of life that spring promises. I certanly have been feeling a lot of need to move my physical body and strech on a daily.
For the wild woman who walks in sync with nature’s rhythms, March is a sacred invitation to align with the Earth’s awakening, to nurture the body and spirit for the coming light and growth. I always feel like a call to prepare my body and soul before the day of the Spring Equinox which is the end of this month. For us all in the Northern Hemisphere the beginning of Spring happens at 3:06 UTC on March 20th this year.
Here are five spiritual practices to embrace this month, each a poetic ode to the transition from the sleep of winter to the vibrant wakefulness of spring.
Dance with the Earth
March whispers the first verses of spring’s poem, inviting us to step outside and place our feet upon the awakening Earth. Let every step be a dance, a moving meditation that connects you to the pulse of life stirring beneath the surface. Rise with the dawn, when the world is still, and the air is thick with potential. In this quiet hour, let your spirit merge with the awakening day, feeling the symbiotic rhythm of Earth and self. If you feel called practice some gentle Sun gazing in the morning or evening, breathwork is extra helpful around Spring time and being barefoot whenever you can!
Feast of the First Green
As nature adorns herself in the first tender greens of the year, align your table with the season.
Embrace foods that embody the vitality of spring—sprouts, seeds, and leafy greens.
Let your meals be a sacred act of communion with the Earth, a celebration of the cycle of life and renewal. Eating in harmony with the season not only nourishes the body but also feeds the soul, grounding you in the present moment and the cycle of growth.
Flow with the Melting Waters
Just as the ice melts to reveal the fluidity of water beneath, let your body move with fluidity and grace. Integrate gentle, flowing movements into your daily practice. Be it yoga by the morning light, tai chi in the embrace of the noon sun, or a mindful walk under the canopy of dusk—let your movement be a homage to the waters that nurture the Earth. This practice is a physical poem, celebrating the transition from the stillness of winter to the movement of spring.
Whisper to the Seeds of Dreams
March is a time of planting, both in the garden and within the soul.
Dedicate time to meditate on your intentions for the coming seasons. What seeds of change do you wish to plant in your life?
Write them down, sing them into the wind, or simply hold them in your heart as you walk upon the Earth.
These intentions are sacred seeds; nurture them with your actions and watch as they grow alongside the budding world.
Embrace of the Lengthening Light
With each passing day, the light lingers a little longer, painting the sky with the promise of longer days.
Make a ritual of greeting the sun each morning, absorbing its warmth and vitality.
Let this practice be a daily renewal of your own inner light, a reminder that just as the Earth cycles from darkness to light, so too do we have our seasons of shadow and illumination.
March is a bridge between the introspective solitude of winter and the expressive abundance of spring. For the wild woman, it is a sacred time to align with the rhythms of nature, to nurture the body and spirit, and prepare for the season of growth. Embrace these practices as invitations to deepen your connection with the earth, with yourself, and with the unfolding tapestry of life.
My deepest love and green blessings,
Wild Mamma
